DIY Essential Oil Infused Paw Wax

Updated: Feb 1, 2019

My dogs love playing in the snow! But, their little paws need to be protected by that freezing cold ground, snow, ice and salt. Store bought paw wax can cost up to $25 so I found this DIY paw wax that I know is toxic-chemical free & less expensive to make!

Tip: This paw balm can also be used for dry/cracked paws, ears and snouts!

What you'll need:

  • 2 tablespoons of Beeswax (Buy Here)

  • 2 tablespoons of Coconut Oil (Buy Here)

  • 2 tablespoons of Shea Butter (Buy Here)

  • 1 teaspoon of Calendula Oil (Buy Here)

  • 1 teaspoon of Vitamin E Oil (Buy Here)

  • 10-20 drops of Essential Oils (When it comes to pets, I only will trust and use Young Living Essential Oils, due to the fact that other brands may have synthetic additives and toxic-chemicals added to the bottle of oil! Plus, Young Living even makes a special Animal Scents line of oils that were formulated just for pets! For this recipe I used Young Living's T-Away Essential Oil for its calming properties! Learn how to order from Young Living here!)

  • Glass Stirring rod (Buy Here)

  • Container of your choice (This recipe will yield about 3.5-4oz) Some of my recommendations depending on how many dogs you are making it for!: •1- 4 oz metal tin (Buy Here) •2-2 oz metal tins (Buy Here) •4-1 oz metal tins (Buy Here) •About 25-30 empty lip balm tubes (Buy Here)

Directions:

Step One:

Make a double Boiler! Fill a small pot halfway with water. Then place a glass or metal bowl in the pot.

Melt the beeswax first, stirring with a glass rod until it is completely melted.

Then, stir in the coconut oil. until it is melted, then add the calendula oil, vitamin E oil and shea butter last. The calendula and vitamin e are already liquids, so they don't need to be in the heat that long and shea butter is not a big fan of heat so as soon as the shea butter is melted take the bowl off of the heat!

Step Two:

Once the bowl of the mixture is removed from the heat, let it cool for 2 minutes and then add the essential oil(s) and mix all of the oils together thoroughly

Step Three:

Add the mixture to the container(s) of your choice and let cool and solidify completely before applying to your dog!
